Howdy WHA Members!
And just like that we move from discussions on droughts to talking flooding.
On August 4th we held our 7th Annual Flood Control Forum, featuring Dr. Tina Petersen, Executive Director of the Harris County Flood Control District. In addition to her presentation, Dr. Petersen participated in a moderated discussion with WHA’s Flood Control and Drainage Committee Chair, Tim Buscha (IDS Engineering Group) and took questions from the audience.
We also held our Rising Leaders session on Regional Mobility on August 26th which featured presentations by Jim Webb (The Goodman Corporation), Sanjay Bapat (Allen Boone Humphries Robinson), Jessica Jia (EHRA Engineering), Colby Wright (Quiddity), and William Papadopoulos (Delta Troy Interests) at ERHA’s offices.
Meanwhile our committees have been hard at work. We have approved a project for a Sustainability Stars award, updated our Quality Planned Development recognition program, discussed our 2023 legislative priorities, and are monitoring the Harris County Bond proposal.
For the last few months, we have also been working on our 2023 Economic and Demographic Profile that will be debuted at the Public and Elected Officials reception on September 8th. Thank you to Matt Stoops (LJA Engineering), Andrew Lang (BGE), Steve Spillette and Ty Jacobsen (CDS), Lawrence Dean (Zonda), and Renee Lewis (L&P Marketing) for their work on this project.
In addition to the Public and Elected Officials reception we have our Westside City Council Forum with Houston city council members Amy Peck, Marry Nan Huffman, & Tiffany Thomas, on October 6th. Then a special Port of Houston Regional Mobility Forum with Ric Campo on November 1st that will discuss the connections between the port and distribution here on the west side.
There are also several committee meetings this month: Government Affairs on September 12th, Sustainable Infrastructure on September 13th, Water Resources on September 15th, and Membership on September 16th. If you would like to be added to the email list or calendar invites for any committees, please let us know.
Thank you for your support of the West Houston Association and working to improve quality of life for the 2,000,000+ people who live, work, and play across the Greater West Houston region!
