Alan Steinberg Ph.D, will officially begin his role as the incoming President and Chief Executive Officer on May 19th, 2020. He is coming from Rice University where he serves as an Associate Director of Houston Programs and Partnerships within the Center for Civic Leadership. In this capacity he has successfully led over 30 Houston Action Research Teams, which are interdisciplinary teams of students conducting research with community partners on issues facing the City of Houston and it’s residents.
Prior to his time at Rice, Alan served as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Political Science and as a member of the Center for the Study of Disasters and Emergency Management at Sam Houston State University. He has an array of experiences from overseeing operations of the Center for Advanced Defense Studies in Washington DC to organizing events with Comicpalooza to teaching college courses on a variety of topics including political science, public policy, statistics, leadership and writing. Alan is actively involved with multiple committees of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, volunteers with the American Red Cross Texas Gulf Coast Region, serves on the advisory committee for Plant It Forward Farms, the NEXTGen Leadership Committee for the Holocaust Museum Houston and is an associate with Duncan College at Rice University.
As the incoming CEO/President, Alan said that he hopes to “increase public awareness of the association and our 2060 plan … this means increasing and broadening our advocacy, collaboration, and education efforts. Using the 2060 plan as a guide I want us to push forward to achieving the goals laid out ahead of schedule by starting to address challenges and immediately taking advantages of opportunities.”
Augustus “Auggie” Campbell is leaving WHA to start a new role as the Executive Director of the Association of Water Board Directors. There will be a Goodbye/Hello Virtual Happy Hour and Pub Quiz on May 20th, to say goodbye to Auggie and to welcome Alan in fun WHA fashion. Members are encouraged to create one of our signature WHA Quaratini’s for the event. Registration is open.
